GMA newsman takes helm of CL media group

BALER, Aurora – All roads lead to this capital town located 232  kilometers north of Manila as some 100 media practitioners belonging to the revitalized Central Luzon Media Association, Inc. gather on November 30 to December 1 for its 31st Annual Convention and Installation of Officers led by its incoming president, GMA/Remate news correspondent Ronald Madrid Leander.

            This year’s two-day gathering, which carries the theme : “Electoral Maturity, Our Responsibility,” will be highlighted by the conferment of awards of recognition to some public officials, led by the Angara triumvirate of Sen. Edgardo J. Angara, Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara and Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo. Venue of the event is the multi-purpose hall of the Aurora State College of Technology in Barangay Zabali.
            Leander will take the place of outgoing president Tony Arcenal, correspondent of dzME/ABC 5.
            Delegates to the convention will come from the various press clubs and organizations in the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales and the host province of Aurora.
            Aside from the Angaras, also expected to grace the affair are Commission on Elections Commissioner and former two-time Isabela governor Ma. Gracia Cielo  Padaca, Comelec spokesperson and education and information department director James Arthur B. Jimenez and National Press Club president Benny Antiporda, the guest speaker and inducting officer.
            A media practitioner for 14 years, Leander started as a broadcaster in this capital town and is a mainstay in various local, regional and foreign newspapers. Aside from working as reporter of GMA-7 Network, Inc. , he is also a regular member of the NPC and the European Union of Journalists.
            In a press statement, Leander said he considers it a distinct honor and privilege to be the president of the CLMA. “The CLMA is a repository of the brightest and the best minds in the media profession in the region. Certainly, to be chosen as leader of CLMA is heart-warming and overwhelming,” he said.
            Quoting boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, he said that with great power comes great responsibility and said he is taking up the challenge of leading the CLMA, considered the mother organization of all press clubs and groups in the region.
            He said one of his priorities is the provision of health benefits to active members of the CLMA and to forge a tie-up between the NPC and the CLMA.
            Aside from the Angaras, this year’s event was supported by Dipaculao Mayor Reynante Tolentino, Las Pinas Rep.
